Roberto Clemente Illustrated
By Ian Casselberry in Miscellaneous | 3 comments
This fall, Fantagraphics Books will release a graphic novel about the life of Roberto Clemente, titled 21.
The book, by Puerto Rican cartoonist Wilfred Santiago, has its own website, where you can check out a preview as well as a trailer including several illustrations.
You can also view the trailer at Santiago’s personal web page. In addition, preview images - such as the one below - can be seen at Santiago’s Flickr page.
Not only am I a sucker for beautiful illustrations, but this graphic novel might make me feel better about looking at David Maraniss’s enormous (416 pages) Clemente biography and thinking, “Man, that looks like a heavy read.”

Ah-h-h, Roberto. The only thing better than him throwing the ball from the base of the right field wall was him rounding the bases on a triple!!! So much grace!!!
